Exploring Our Favorites: A Look at the Top 5 Homeschooling Resources We LOVE

As we journey through the wonderful world of homeschooling, one of the first questions most people have is, “What curriculum do I use?” Now honestly, there are so many great options out there that you really can’t go wrong. However, after years of exploring, adapting, and learning, our family has gathered a collection of top-notch resources that have found a permanent place in our home.

Today, we’re excited to share our top five favorites and why they’ve become such cherished elements of our learning adventure.

  • 1. Read Aloud Revival Premium Membership: A Haven for Book Lovers

In our family, read-aloud time is a cherished ritual, and it always has been. I found Sarah Mackenzie (the founder of Read Aloud Revival) at the beginning of my homeschooling journey through her book Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace (which is a MUST READ for all homeschoolers). Over the years, I continued to follow her podcast and blog. When I learned about this membership she had, I knew this would be something we would need. The Read Aloud Revival Premium Membership is absolutely invaluable to our family. This membership elevates our experience by offering a treasure trove of resources like family book club, author chats for your children, and coaching for homeschool mamas. This community fuels our love for reading aloud, deepening connections and fostering a lifelong love for books.

  • 2. Morning Time Volumes from Brighter Day Press: A Harmonious Start

Our homeschool day begins with the gentle rhythm of Morning Time or Morning Basket. This is how we connect and do the things that are most important to our family and to our homeschool. The Morning Time volumes from Brighter Day Press guide us beautifully. By combining subjects like Bible, scripture memory, poetry, art, music, and more, it sets a peaceful tone and cultivates an atmosphere of curiosity and wonder that carries us through the day. We also add many picture books to our morning basket, compliments of the monthly book lists from Brighter Day Press.

  • 3. Beautiful Feet Books: Weaving Stories into Learning

If you haven’t already figured it out, we LOVE books! We believe that beautiful literature holds the key to understanding history, culture, and life, in general. Beautiful Feet Books seamlessly integrates rich literature with history, providing a vivid and engaging understanding of our world’s past. Through captivating stories, our children develop empathy, cultural awareness, and critical thinking skills that textbooks alone can’t offer. Their teacher guides also include many rabbit trail study options for your children, along with many enriching experiences, like delicious recipes, that add to our learning experiences.

  • 4. All About Reading: Embracing the Love of Reading

Reading is a gateway to exploration, imagination, and knowledge. All About Reading’s multi-sensory approach captivates our children’s hearts and minds, making reading an exciting journey. Tailored to different learning styles, it equips struggling readers with tools to overcome challenges and nurtures a love for the written word. We have used this curriculum with my first three children that have learned how to read, and I have every intention of using this for the younger two as well. **Side note: we did have to dip our toes into another curriculum briefly to help my child who was showing characteristics of dyslexia. However, we have since returned to All About Reading and he is absolutely flying through it and enjoying it more now too.**

  • 5. Math-U-See: Unveiling the Mysteries of Mathematics

Mathematics can be a puzzling subject for many, but Math-U-See brings clarity and understanding to our homeschool. With its hands-on approach and systematic progression, our children embrace math concepts with confidence. The manipulatives and clear instruction make abstract ideas tangible, ensuring a strong foundation for advanced math. We truly love the video instruction, taught by Mr. Demme himself, to allow our children to begin to gain some independence over their learning journeys.

Each of these resources is like a special ingredient that adds flavor and depth to our homeschooling journey. By catering to different learning styles and nurturing a love for learning, they’ve become our trusted companions in the pursuit of knowledge and growth.

We encourage you to explore these curricula and find the ones that resonate with your family’s unique needs and goals. After all, homeschooling isn’t just about the destination – it’s about the enriching journey we embark on together.
